Boise Area Pickleball News

Just want to mention. again, our local intra-valley pickleball tournament July 13th and 14th.  It would be great for all of the local pickleball players to play in this tournament. It will be great fun and really stress free because you’ll be playing against players you play with every day so sign-up and have fun.  This tournament is for all newbies too, so all the players that were in Tami’s and my last class are encouraged to sign-up. This is a good tournament to get your feet wet.

The Northern Idaho Senior Games in Lewiston, ID was completed June 23rd and we had some medal winners from our club.  Here are some of the results:

MD – Rodell Hill & Rudy (Perry) Whittaker took Gold and Tim Gleason & Jan Johnson took the Silver.

MS – Tim Gleason took Gold, Rodell Hill took Silver and Rudy Whittaker took the Bronze (a clean sweep in the Men’s Singles for BAPA)

MXD – Tim Gleason & Carol Nelson took the Gold.  Carol was a new partner for Tim and it looks like she worked out pretty good huh.

For all the individual results go to USAPA.org.  All of us here in the Boise area want to say a big THANKS to Steve Judy and Doug & Shirlene McMillan for putting on such a great tournament. Oh and by the way Doug’s wife, Shirlene and her partner, Libby Macklin, took the Gold Medal in women’s double.

I take great pride in passing on this information.. Since May we have added ten new members to our GROWING little club.  Please welcome them with open arms and encourage the new players anytime you can.  Our latest members are:  Doug & Tricia Carlson, Jim & Margo Hunter, Mike & Sue Ness, Jana Holman, Diana Bunger, Dick & Lawana Johnson, Bob Calver and Kathy Getto. You can look up their individual pictures by going to the Membership tab, so check’m out.  With these new members our club now has over 50 members.

In addition we have more than a few non-member new pickleball players playing with us daily at either Sawtooth Middle School or Home Court YMCA.  It’s really great to see the game we all love growing like it is in the Boise area.

Last week my wife (Tami) and I took a quick trip to the Portland/Vancouver area.  We went to see our grandson graduate.  Before leaving we got in contact with Mike Wolfe about joining in with their group while we were there.  They were very gracious to let us play in their “mini” tournament on Wed. night.  With about 20 players ranked as A, B, or C level – it was a very invorgating and fun night.  Then on Friday night we played again and had about 12 players come out.  We were totally exhausted but had so much fun, it was hard to stop.  We met 3 of the Ambassadors in that area :                                                      Mike & Tawn Wolfe and Hunter Duvall

Come one, come all to the first intra-valley pickleball tournament. The Nampa Rec Center is sponsoring this first Treasure Valley pickleball tournament and I want to invite all Treasure Valley pickleball players, or any pickleball player from anywhere, to come and join us at the tournament.  I would like to personally invite “newbees” to come and play so you all can get some good tournament experience.  This is a double elimination style tournament with age groups not skill level.
