Boise Area Pickleball News

On Tuesday, September the 25th, the Boise Area Pickleball Association (BAPA) held their first monthly round-robin style club tournament.  The tournament was held at the Hobble Creek Park’s tennis/pickleball courts. A great time was had by all.  There were 8 ladies and 12 men vying for the gold.  All players played five games and with each game they had a new partner, which made things interesting and fun. The results were:

Women’s Gold was won by LeAnne Stenberg who has only been playing off and on for around five months,  Silver was won by Sonya Kincheloe, one of the clubs first members, and Bronze was won by Tami Leach, one of the founders of BAPA.

Men’s Gold was won by Joe Bonawitz, the youngest member of BAPA at 25, Silver went to Stan Sluder also one of the club first members, and Bronze went to the clubs 1st President, Perry (Rudy) Whittaker.

The club will be having monthly club tournaments so if you not a member better join soon and get in on the fun.  Contact BAPA at boiseapa11@gmail.com .

The club also held a pot-luck dinner at Tully Park at 6pm that night with fun and food enjoyed by at least 20 of the club’s members.  Just another reason to join this fast growing club.  Hope to see some new members at the next tournament.  For more information about the club and places to play click on the tabs above and check things out.

The Columbia River Pickleball Club is having a tournament September the 29th-30th in Vancouver, WA.  The is a USAPA sanctioned skill level tournament for beginner to most advanced. If you’ve never played in a tournament this is the one for you. It’s being held at the Firstenburg Community Center in Vancouver, WA, which is indoors.  Dead line for registration is September the 22nd so get going (LOL).  For more information you can either go to our tab or www.pickleballtournaments.com.

Our club (the Boise Area Pickleball Association – BAPA) is going to hold its first  monthly tournament Tuesday, September the 25th, 2012 at the Hobble Creek Park tennis courts (behind the West YMCA) at 8:30am.  This is our first attempt at having a monthly in-club tournament and if it is successful we will have one every month. For more information and details go to our Club Activities tab and check it out.  In addition we will be having a “Potluck” style dinner at the Tully Park on Linder and Ustick in Meridian that evening at 6pm.  I hope all our members will come and bring a friend (even if you didn’t play in the tournament).  We will also be having the Club’s annual Officer(s) (President, Vice President, Treasure and Secretary) so if you know of someone or would like to serve yourself be sure and voice your nominations.  Our club’s fiscal year is October 1st through September 30th.  Hope to see you all at either the tournament or the potluck that night.

Our fellow club members, Nick and Tami Leach, will be teaching an “Introduction to Pickleball” class through the Boise Schools Community Education system  The classes will be held at the YMCA Home Court in Meridian, ID from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursdays beginning from September 20th through October the 25th, 2012.
