Boise Area Pickleball News

The Boise Area Pickleball Association’s (BAPA) November monthly tournament is in the books.  We want to thank all the volunteers who helped with the tournament.  Tournaments aren’t successful without great volunteers. This month’s tournament was a random draw doubles tournament and each player played five games. Everyone had a great time playing, eating and just laughing and talking to all the club and non-club member who were there.  It always a great time so sign-up for January’s tournament.

Now for the results:  Men’s Gold medal winner was: Rodell Hill, Silver went to Terry Donahue and the Bronze went to Dennis Kincheloe.  There were 11 men signed up.

Women’s Gold medal winner was: Sony Kincheloe, Silver went to Chris Carter (her first medal in a tournament) and Bronze went to Candy Bonawitz.  We had six women signed up.

Everyone had a great time at BAPA’s (Boise Area Pickleball Association) monthly club tournament on October 30th.  October’s theme was of course Halloween/Breast Cancer Awareness and many of our players dressed-up and looked great.  We had 12 men and 12 women players and a big thanks goes out to Rodell Hill , Stan Sluder and Rudy Whittaker for the great job of running the tournament.  And the Winners were:

Men’s gold medal winner: Nick Leach, Silver medal went to Bob Calver and the Bronze went to Terry Donahue.  Great job guys.   And the lady winners were:

Gold medal winner was: Tami Leach, Silver medal went to Linda Mitchell and the Bronze went to Sonya Kincheloe.  Great too ladies.

For those of you who didn’t play and wanted to and those that played we will be have November tournament on Tuesday the 27th.  Details will be emailed in the future but be sure and put it on your calendars.

BAPA (Boise Area Pickleball Association) is planning their 2^nd monthly tournament for Tuesday, October 30^th.  It will be held at HomeCourt YMCA in Meridian, ID and will start at 8:30am.  The event will be round robin Mixed doubles.  Everyone will play 5 games and the top 3 men and women with the most points will win Gold/Silver/Bronze.  (Partners will be randomly drawn for each game).

The entry fee for BAPA club members is $2.00 per person or $5.00 for non-members.  Remember too that HomeCourt’s daily rate is $5.30 or $21.20 per month.

Since this October is beginning our 2^nd year as a club, it would be a great time to join BAPA and enjoy all the benefits our club has to offer.  Membership is only $12.00 per person or $20.00 per couple for the entire year.  Our goal as a group is to become “big” enough to make a difference in our area to grow and promote our wonderful game of Pickleball.  If you want to be part of a fun and outgoing group of people with the same love of Pickleball, please consider joining our club.

Since this month’s tournament is held close to Halloween – I would encourage those that would like to, to wear a “non-restrictive” costume or wear PINK for October’s Breast Awareness!!

Again this tournament is meant to be a FUN time and all levels of play are welcome.  If anyone is so inclined, refreshments would be welcomed also.

By playing a fun Tournament at the Hollingberry Fieldhouse in Pullman, WA on Thursday, November the 8th from 3pm to 8pm.  It’s a skill level Doubles only tournament and the cost is $20 per team or $12 per individual.  You can email: pickleballforpatriots@gmail.com for more information and details.  “All proceeds go to benefit Pets for Vets”.  Hope to see you there.

Join me in congratulating one our club members, Tim Gleason , for his recent medals in San Diego and Las Vegas.  Tim and his MD’s partner, Bob Blanco, received a Bronze medal in the 70-74 (Upper Level) age  group at the San Diego Senior Olympics on 9/21-23/2012.  He also won a Silver medal in MXD’s with his partner Alice Tym.  Then Tim went on the win two more medals at the Nevada Senior Olympics.  He won a Gold medal in MS’s in the 70-74 age group and a Bronze medal in MD’s in the 65-69 with his partner, Chris Thomas.  Some of you may remember Chris Thomas from the Idaho Senior Games played here in August.  Way to go Tim!
